My Story
“Inspired by childhood memories of my bold & beautiful grandmother, for me, chocolate is synonymous with comfort food and happy times. We were a bunch of 8 grandchildren who would trail behind our Mimi hoping to get a sweet treat from her after playtime in the scorching summer of April in Chennai. The best part was that she always had a stock of these ‘foreign goodies’ – VanHouten Chocolate (a little red wrapper) from Singapore in her almirah. The woody aromas of the chocolate in her cupboard are etched in our memory and bring back a whirlwind of emotions that we can taste till date. Even though she would spoil us rotten, we would still try and get into her cupboard when she was not around and hope to find those melting sensation. It’s those moments of innocent childhood enjoyments – that unadulterated sparkles of joy and happiness — that get recreated for me in every square of chocolate that we make at our workshop. Though we use new flavors and contemporary processes, when I am creating a flavor – we rummage through the nooks and crannies of our childhood experiences in search of elements in our nostalgia that we can relive with chocolate -it is all about those feel-good taste notes! So our base chocolate will always have that familiar deliciousness.”
At Mimi’s we understand that usually our first treats of sweets, be it chocolate or candy, come from our grandparents who spent oodles of time & love making us feel so very special. What better way to celebrate that bond with a bar or bark of the world’s greatest bean – Chocolate.
